Safaga Spot Guide - Safaga - Egypt, Red Sea
See our Guide to Safaga Windsurf and Kitesurf sailing. The ideal location for everyone from beginners to professionals and perfect for a learn to windsurf or kitesurf holiday.
The Spot at Safaga
Safaga is perfectly suitable for all skill levels. In Safaga you can enjoy windsurfing and kitesurfing, no matter whether you are beginner, intermediate or expert. Tuition takes place in a shallow water area in ideal conditions for practicing water starts. The beginner lagoon is perfect for all novices, as the water is very flat and the wind considerably less strong than anywhere else at the spot. The beach section in front of the centre is located on a headland so that you can launch easily and directly from the centre. The spot offers ideal slalom, freeride and freestyle conditions.
Wind Conditions
The wind blows side-offshore from the left in the morning and then turns to sideshore around 11am. The wind conditions in the morning favour excursions to Toubia Island, a sandy island surrounded by turquoise water only 3.8 kilometres away – don't miss it! In the afternoon the steady wind normally blows sideshore. This wind direction dominates from 11am until the afternoon. The stronger the wind blows, the longer it stays in the afternoon. The kitesurfing spot is about 300 metres downwind. The areas for windsurfing and kitesurfing tuition are separate from each other.
The Center
The center location on the beautiful and wide beach of Shams Hotel is by far the best spot in Safaga. Safaga is the largest Club Mistral center and very well equipped. The kitesurfing center is now situated separately from the windsurfing center at the newly built 4* Hotel Shams Imperial about 300 metres downwind. The Imperial Hotel directly follows the Sham Hotel downwind. Every year the center welcomes many regular guests, who appreciate the familiar atmosphere and check wind and weather on the webcam beforehand.
Kids
The windsurfing spot in Safaga has a big lagoon with shallow water (depending on the tide). The lagoon has a bit less wind than the rest of the bay. We offer kids lesson for all levels and have a big choice of kids equipment at the center.
